Amorim: Manchester United are far from perfect and formation is not the root of the problem at all

Manchester United coach Amorim was interviewed recently and talked about the team's formation and other issues.

Before the international break, United were on a five-game unbeaten run in the league, including a landmark victory over Liverpool and hard-fought draws at Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, Amorim believes that the improvement in form just highlights that the team is still far behind the required level. He once again refuted criticism of his formation and warned the players that it is the intensity of the game, not the tactical system, that determines their progress.

Amorim said: "We are playing better, but that's because we have more confidence, and that starts with good results, like the win against Liverpool."

"We are improving, but I can share my feelings when we finished the game against Tottenham on the way back to Carrington. I watched the game and my feeling was frustration because we were far from perfect, so I think we still have a lot of work to do, but I also had a feeling, and I've been saying it for months, that the formation wasn't the problem.

"Formation is just where things start, then it's the dynamics, the confidence, the way we play and how competitive we are."

"If you look at the games where we've struggled this season, in my opinion the problem isn't the formation, it's the lack of intensity. In this league, we need Being perfect wins a lot of games."

Amorim has been under pressure for much of his year or so at United, but he still has the support of senior figures including minority shareholder Sir Ratcliffe, although he insists that support has made little difference to the way he works or behaves.

Amorim said: "It's always very important, but it's more important for the fans to understand that we have a clear path and no matter what happens, we will do our best to continue along that path."

"Honestly, having the support of the owner doesn't change much for me because I'm not worried about losing my job, I never have been. "But if you remember when Ratcliffe did that interview, the atmosphere around the club was a lot calmer and the noise outside had completely changed, which was very important for the team, and if it was important for the team, it was important for me."
