Yesterday, King Charles officially awarded Beckham a knighthood. Beckham wrote a long article about the knighthood.
Beckham wrote:
I cannot describe in words what a special day it is for me today. A boy born in East London received the Order of Knighthood from the King.
I am extremely humbled and grateful for this honor. I feel lucky to represent my country and always carry out this duty with pride. I love our Royal Family, they mean so much not only to the British people but to people all over the world. I never would have dared to dream of receiving such an honour, from Ridgeway Wanderers to Manchester United, Preston, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and of course the England national team, all the clubs I have played for, with the best coaches and team-mates, and the loyal fans who have helped me get to where I am today, and I am grateful to all of them.
Playing for my country has always been the proudest moment in my career. When I was 7 years old, I dreamed of representing England and serving as captain. Football has given me everything, and it has allowed me to embark on the journey since I was a child. Everything I have seen has allowed me to witness the plight of children around the world. I've been lucky enough to work with brilliant organizations such as UNICEF, The Royal Foundation and The King's Fund, which have impressed upon me the importance of supporting children, helping them realize their potential and inspiring the next generation. I am also proud to work with the troops who have sacrificed so much for us.
My desire has always been to make my family proud. My parents and grandparents have always been by my side and taught me the values of hard work and respect. My beautiful wife has been by my side for the past 28 years, serving as my strongest support and my refuge in difficult times. Without her, my life would be completely different. My children make me so proud and I know this day is a proud and inspiring day for them too, you are the greatest joy of our lives and my inspiration every day. I love you all
Finally mommy, daddy, Victoria, and my babies, can you believe this?
I love you all deeply, thank you!
As early as 2010, Beckham was nominated for a knighthood for the first time. However, due to his involvement in a tax avoidance incident, he was rejected by the tax department and his nomination was rejected by the Honors Committee. In 2021, the tax department cleared Beckham's innocence and opened the door for him to receive this honor. Now 50 years old, Beckham has finally been knighted.
