The Athletic posted a report reporting on the competition between Newcastle and Chelsea against Brighton striker Joao Pedro.
Chelsea competes with Newcastle United for Brighton striker Joao Pedro, and the 23-year-old Brazil international missed the last two games of the season due to clashes with teammate Van Heck in training. The Seagulls have not accepted any offer yet, and the two Premier League clubs are in transfer negotiations with Brighton.
The Brighton coach said before the season finale against Tottenham that the matter has been handled internally and is regarded as a "closed case." Last season, Joao Pedro played 30 games for the team, contributing 10 goals and 7 assists. In the summer of 2023, he joined from Watford with a team record of £30 million, and has scored 30 goals in 70 appearances so far.
Chelsea have signed Drapp from Ipswich this summer, and Essugo, Estewan, Mamadu Saar and Kendri Pais, who were previously finalized, have also joined. Joao Pedro's potential transfer will be pushed after Sancho leaves the team on loan. The Blues' transfer focuses on all-round attacking players and right-footed left wingers, and is discussing Gittens' transfer with Dortmund.
Newcastle, who will participate in the Champions League next season, has not signed first-team players this summer. Brighton has become a star processing factory in recent years. Players such as Kesedo, Kukurelia, Ben White and McAllister have all transferred out at high prices to create huge profits for the club.
Joao Pedro, who made his Brazilian national team debut in November last year, has won three national team calls. He started for 60 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Colombia in March, lost 0-4 to the World Cup champion Argentina five days later, and failed to play. The disastrous defeat directly led to the dismissal of coach Dorival.
